Elderly people getting lost in another country’s hotel?

Elderly people getting lost in another country’s hotel

Forgetting which floor and  room door in a hotel

******

A dry cough behind me

as I stepped into a lift,

It was an old Chinese man with a hat

I tapped my room card

and pressed my floor number.

He stood still beside me…

******

I signalled to him to tap his card

and press his floor number.

He did and pressed

the same floor number as mine.

As we stepped out,

I let him move forward first.

********

I stood in front of the lift observing him

as he walked up and down the corridor,

and tried to open several room doors in vain!

This time I felt uneasy

I stepped back into the lift

and prayed that he didn’t follow me

again into the lift!

******

I reported to the counter staff

“oh no! these old tourists!

…. always forget their floor number

or their room number!”

She sent a staff member to go check.

******

The next morning during breakfast,

my colleague told me,

” I saw the old man with a hat. He sat opposite me.  I gave him a tissue napkin. He carefully tore the napkin into two and gave back to me half of it!”

*******

So sweet of him!

But why is he travelling

in another country, ALONE!

Getting older is a blessing and a privilege but it can also certainly be scary if you’re facing these years alone.

    1. Someone told me that old people have a lot of time and money. So they travel. But the youngs are so busy working, I suppose.

I once saw a meme that says young people have time but not money and that old people have money but not a lot of time. I realize this doesn’t apply to all cases but it did make me think about the ironies in life!
