As quoted above, failures should be taught to be are part of a journey to success.

It is worrying to see young school children committing suicide because of their inability to cope with homeworks and examination stress.

School should be fun!

I think youth mental health is a societal issue. The school system certainly plays a part but also a lot of are the expectations set at home and by societal norms. Very concerning and sad.

  3. Teenage suicide is a terrible tragedy that happens world wide from English school children to high rates among Australian Aboriginals in remote parts. Being a pre teen or teenager is a strange time and they need support not pressure from peers, parents or schools.

  4. It is one of the reasons I have always struggled with everyone in a class receiving an award throughout the school year, often multiple times. The lack of resilience has become a real issue. Some would say I am a grumpy old man for saying such. However, we have always talked to our kids re how to get through life. The Whitehall Study (who is really stressed in the workplace and what is the underlying cause of heart attacks) and what flowed from there in terms of other research shows that kids can handle, and in fact enjoy, adult conversations. They like undertaking tasks in an adult way, we seem to undermine this.

    1. In some countries, the ‘kiasu’ and ‘kiasi’ culture can be quite competitive. Too much have been drummed into achieving ‘A’s, instead of a balanced lifestyle.
