Are you too young to retire?

of retired people
*******
a female director in her eighties
but was still walking around
the whole hospital grounds.
I bet retirement
was never in her vocabulary.
So, I shouldn’t complain if
I have to cover
a whole hospital compound, too!
I would take it
as a good exercise!
*********
Yet I feared for her
when I saw her walking alone
up a stage to give a speech one evening.
I told the organiser that someone
should have accompanied her
up and down the stage.
And they did
when she was about
to walk down the stage.
*********
I personally had requested a chaperon
to walk me up a stage
for an award winning ceremony
in Pattaya, Thailand.
I was in my fifties, then.
The stair was made of wooden planks
with holes in between!
The drum roll for each announcement
was a shattering, frightening,
and unnerving experience.
*********
So, one may be too young to retire,
but never defy
the fragility of old age!
******
Some countries are increasing
their retirement age.
Are you too young to retire?

I would want to retire at a young age but not stop working. And use that time instead to pursue other creative endeavors. I think that’s the key, is to stay active so the mind doesn’t rot! 😂

Hmmm, what creative endeavors you have in mind?

Ask me in many years from now! 😂 It’ll probably be related to writing, I would imagine. And hopefully travel-related writing too!

It’s good to have an idea and then work towards it. may it come true!

I agree! People should retire when they want to. I know of business people (who are rich and successsful) who are still actively working although they will be eighty soon!

My job was easier work than my work during “retirement!”

Lol! What is this non-so-easy work that you have now during retirement?

Child care. And I am not very good at it!

Now, I understand. Keep it up! Wait till the child starts walking and running…..

Yes and no. I did retire and have been volunteering in libraries ever since. Now I don’t get paid.

I wish you could still get some allowance for your contribution if not a salary!

Our tax laws allow me to claim mileage and some expenses I incur on behalf of volunteering. While a small salary would be nice, this allows me more freedom on what I do and when I do it.
