Electric train to Penang Island!
********
Introduction
Flying in and out of Penang (go to this link to see more pictures of Penang) for work didn’t allow much sightseeing.
Electric train and a ferry ride
My son and I went to Penang Island on an electric train. It was an awesome experience to actually traverse the Bukit Merah Lake in Perak state on an electric train!

We then took a 15 minutes ferry-ride from the mainland to Penang Island. The ferry was a newer model and airconditioned. I looked with interest a signage on the door of a storeroom; “Life jackets for adults, toddlers as well as, for infants“.

Penang Hill, colonial buildings and temples
I went up the Penang hill once when I was a young girl. But that day, it was packed because of school holiday! We took the fast-track lane for a less hassle experience up and down the hill. Penang hill was a retreat during the British colonial period. It is now a popular tourist destination in Penang.

From the hotel window, a fast food restaurant was housed in a colonial building! We went to see the sleeping Buddha and the Kek Lo Si temple, too!

But what my son enjoyed most were food, food, and more food!
Dim sum, fried oyster omelette (Oh Chien), popiah, assam laksa, and iced peanut dessert (ABC) were among our favorites.
Conclusion
I enjoyed this break and the food! My camera photos do not do justice to the beauty of Penang Island. Read more about Penang here if you are thinking of visiting Penang Island!
